14 November 2012

On July 14, 2012 after I came back from buying things for Rev. Jeffrey’s trip, my truck engine stopped and I could not start it again.  Although we tried with bigger battery and pushing it to start, the engine did not turn over. So I called the garage where I usually repair my truck. After opening the engine, we saw that the big end bearings were melted.  This is why the engine could not rotate at all. This case was somewhat unusual because the engine oil, radiator water and the engine heat were all normal. I informed Rev. Jeffrey of this problem because the schedule that I and Rev. Jeffrey made was fast approaching. The next day Rev. Jeffrey informed me that ABCF church would like pay to repair the truck’s engine for me. This is a real blessing because we use this truck for the hostel ministry.

Although this old four-wheel drive truck’s body is very old, after the engine was overhauled, the engine’s power returned like a young elephant. I always tell the children and villagers that I come in contact with that we are “God will Provide for His children”.  From my direct experience with the hostel ministry that God directed me to do – providing children in the mountain with a change to receive a basic education and be able to help themselves in society today –  I can testify that the phrase above is true. Both hostel homes that I am responsible for (Omkoi and MawKlerKee Student Homes) are going on their fourth year and this year the total number of students at both hostels is 75. Since we started this ministry in 2009 until now, July 2013, God has provided everything in His time through our Alliances in Jesus. I could not foresee this in advance as God’s words in the Bible clearly indicate: “As the heavens are higher that the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)

Rev. Jeffrey Saw from Australia and his church members arrived in Chiang Mai yesterday, and today “Miracle” (the name our friend gave this truck) is ready to go into the mountains again. Every time Rev. Jeffrey comes to Chiangmai he stays at my parent’s house, and before each trip into the mountains my mother always pray for us.

At our evening meal at Metal Drum Student Home Omkoi (Coffee Hostel), Auntie Kara prepared Karen food for us.

The first program started in Omkoi where Wright Dee, senior evangelist to the Karen people in Northern Thailand for over 40 years, opened in prayer.  After prayer, Rev. Jeffrey from ABCF Church started his program.

Before Rev. Jeffrey settled in Australia, he had evangelized with Elder Wright Dee in various Karen villages in Northern Thailand. When he has a chance, he wants to come back and visit the villages he had evangelized in the past or evangelize other villages who have never heard God’s Good News. Rev. Jeffrey also is a good example of an evangelist who evangelizes with songs. Although he is senior pastor, he works closely with young people with humility and has never stopped driving young people to evangelize, especially through songs and music. This reminds me of the words someone once said, “Christianity and the church without evangelism are dead.”

Rev. Jeffrey always gives an opportunity to the youth, including the children in Omkoi hostel. When our hostel children took the stage, they were not bashful in praising God with the talents they have. This picture reminds me of the words someone once said that “The greatest success is to build up a new generation.”

Today our destination is KwaeKoh Village. My father, Elder Wright Dee, has pioneered evangelism at KwaeKoh Village since 2011

 39 nov 12 40 nov 12 41 nov 12

This village is a forgotten village because this village was established many years ago, but many of the villagers do not have a national identity card yet. When they get sick, they receive no welfare from government like others with identity cards. Another concern is that many villagers are addicted to opium. They don’t plant opium themselves, but someone comes and sells the opium to them.

Rev. Jeffrey praying for villagers who need prayer – mostly villagers ask him to pray to heal their sickness.

In the Bible it is written that God gives the gift to some servants to pray for sick people.

The next village to visit in our schedule is YaLiKwee Village. On our way to the village, tree branches obstruct our journey so we had to spend time cutting the obstructing branches. There is one thing in visiting most villages that makes for an inconvenient stay, which is the villages have no toilet. The only way is to ask permission from school teacher to use the school toilets.

We did not have a suitable place for our performance, so we asked permission to use the YaLiKwee school facilities. Thanks to the YaLiKwee school, which agreed to allow us to use their school’s facilities.

The weather in Thailand has become unpredictable – so it rained in November, which very unusual for this month which is the winter season.  Some parts of the road are still slippery. I did not expect rain so I did not put on tires for the rainy season.  Therefore, where parts of the road were inclined, our truck would just slide about inside the water tracks. Since our truck is quite heavy, everybody had to help unload some of our luggage, find the stones to fill up the water tracks, and adjust the dirt near the wheel, so we could drive through the muddy tracks.

Elder KuhLahPah, senior evangelist of MawKohKee, joined us here, and we asked him to recite Karen Ancient Poems for the young generations and villagers, along with some explanation behind the mysterious words and their meaning.

186 nov 12

Actually, Karen Ancient Poems include both Proverbs and Aphorisms, and there are a large number of poems for teaching young generations that can be divided into categories. For example, a general category; a young people tease each other category; a new house category; a wedding category;  a funeral category; a prediction category; and, the most helpful category – a category to evangelize God. One of the poems I frequently heard when I was young and remember today has the following meaning:

Before becoming a land, this earth was a group of bubbles, who created it? After it became earth, the bubbles were broken – God created it.

This woman(YeeGae) received God as her savior one year ago; she says she is now free from the dark spirit that she used to experience. She comes to the Sunday service every Sunday. She usually invite us for a meal at her house. This time I ask Rev. Jeffrey to visit and pray for her in her house.

Miss TayTay, the evangelist who is helping us as hostel mother, is still with us, but she mentioned that soon she will go back to her home village to marry.  The villagers love her and she has been very responsible in her duties.  The villagers and I both feel sad that she will leave her role as hostel mother. But, this ministry relies on God’s provisions. NawPo and Pisi are forth-year Bible school students. They are almost finished with their studies. I hope that both of them will be able to help me in this ministry at MawKlerKee.

I have thought for long time to have a water filter for MawKlerKee Hostel. Because I saw children drink water from the tap, which comes from the creek and is not clean enough. Praise be to God that today MawKlerKee Hostel now has a water filter and clean drinking water for the children.

Since Rev. Jeffrey is here, I asked him to give the baptism for YeeGae; she wanted to get baptized many months ago, but at time she was not very well, so she did not want to get her head wet.

This evening we visited MawKohKee, the village of Pastor TawSoe, the former MawKlerKee hostel father. While Pastor TawSoe was helping us at MawKlerKee for 3 years, he could not go back to his church to preach. This was because the school teaching schedule at MawKlerKee School does not stop on Saturdays and Sundays, but goes for 20 days continually and then for 10 days holidays.  So, the elders in the church had to lead the church while he was absent.

After the 10 o’clock service, we continued our travels to BawThoLooh Village.  This village is another village that Elder Wright Dee started as a center of evangelism.  We asked evangelist BlueMay to work here. It took about 2 hours from MawKlerKee to get to  BawThoLooh Village.

For four years, there was no bridge to cross the ShoKlo river that runs between TaPiDer Village and WahBlerLooh Village. There was a temporary bridge built, and during rainy season the flash flood wiped out this temporary bridge. Once in November 2009, we did not have bridge to cross this river. So, we had to extend our truck air filter above the water, wait until the engine cooled down, and then checked for big stones and barriers in the river before we could cross this river.

If this forest was not affected by farmers growing corn or other crops, it would remain a bountiful forest, and could grow a lot of shade tree coffee because there is a natural water source for irrigation. Now I see many areas where villagers cut the trees to grow corn where they are water sources, which is a different method from shifting cultivation which relies on rain. If there is no protection, in time the next generation will face water shortage problem and distorted seasons, and will surely have an impact on the people in living below the water sources.

297 nov 12 298 nov 12 299 nov 12

Four years ago, I told the villagers here that if they have land available with forest or have community forest, then grow coffee. Now they understand, and start to grow coffee.

The next village is WahDohKlo Village, a 2 hour drive to get there.

344 nov 12

Some part of the journey looked thrilling, so some of the team chose to walk rather than ride in the truck.

WahDohKlo Village is another village where Elder Wright Dee set up an evangelism center 10 years ago.

Evangelist ChaCheeCher took us to visit new believers in Christ.

352 nov 12 353 nov 12 354 nov 12

After that we visited ChaTiPoe, a sick villager. We didn’t know what disease he had; he is thin and in pain, cannot work, and just lies on the bed the last 4-5 years.  He sought a variety of treatments, including going to hospitals and tried a number of witch doctors.

He told evangelist ChaCheeCher that if God can heal him from this disease, he will accept God as his God. After we knew this, we went to visit him at his little hut. Elder Wright Dee told him that if you really want God to heal you, you must take the threads off of your neck (a way to ward off bad spirits). He allowed Elder Wright cut the threads around his neck.  After that, Rev. Jeffrey and everybody prayed for him. There were still many superstitious things placed in his house, so GuGu and I removed those items from his house.

I was reminded of the first verse of the Ten Commandments that God wrote with His handwriting, “You shall have no other Gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)

If we did not reach this remote area, Christians in this area would not have chance to have communion together. Today Rev. Jeffrey is here, so he offered communion for the villagers.

368 nov 12

About 9 pm, we visited ChawTiPoe once again and brought him some medicine and prayed once again for his healing. While we were praying, we heard the dog under his hut bark and chase something from under his hut to the grove of wood behind his hut about 10 times. Actually, I wanted to go down and see why this dog was reacting like that, but it might not have been proper because Rev. Jeffrey was praying.

Thanks to God, because in July 2013, I had a chance to go to WahDohKlo again. I heard from evangelist ChaCheeCher that ChawTePoe can now work and live as normal people do; we also heard that his family and his relatives are considering to receive God as their God soon.

27 November 2012

We took 2 hours to drive from WahDohKlo Village to MaeRaMerng Village. Rev. Jeffrey encouraged the villagers and children here; this was our last village to visit in our schedule.
