| After receiving funds from Mr. Gaylord Knepp (76,490 baht on July 8, 2012), I researched bunk bed pricing at many shops in Chiang Mai and searching the internet for information on prices and quality. I discovered that the price per bunk bed is at least 3,800 baht for just the wire net but no mattress. The materials used for the beds and the welding didn’t look strong. I estimated that this kind of work wouldn’t last longer than 1 year without having to do repairs. | หลังจากผมได้รับงบฯค่าเตียงสองชั้นจากคุณเกลอด เนป เป็นเงิน 76,490 บาท เมื่อวันที่ 8 กรกฏาคม 2555 แล้ว ผมเริ่มหาข้อมูลเรื่องราคาและคุณภาพของเตียงสองชั้นทั้งในตัวเมืองเชียงใหม่และในอินเตอร์เนท ข้อมูลที่ผมได้ก็คือ ราคาของเตียงสองชั้นอย่างต่ำอยู่ที่ 3,800 บาทต่อตัว ราคานี้ยังนอนไม่ได้เพราะไม่มีฟูก และที่วางฟูกเป็นตาข่ายเหล็ก เหล็กที่ใช้และรอยเชื่อมก็ดูไม่แข็งแรง ผมคาดว่าหาซื้อไปก็คงใช้ได้ไม่ถึงปี และจะต้องเสียค่าซ่อมบานปลายในที่สุด |

| I contacted a friend of mind name Joseph. He is a retired man from France and he likes to use his abilities to help people . His skills include wood working, metal work, electrical, etc. I met him at Mae Lah Camp 2 years ago. When I contacted him, he was in northeastern Thailand and had just finished helping rubber farmers there. | ผมเริ่มติดต่อเพือนคนหนึ่งชื่อโจเซฟ เขาเป็นชาวฝรั่เศษที่เกษียรแล้ว เขาเป็นคนที่ชอบใช้ความสามารถของเขาช่วยเหลือผู้อื่น สิ่งที่เขาทำได้ ตัวอย่าง เช่น งานไม้ งานเหล็ก งานไฟฟ้า เป็นต้น ผมพบเขาที่ศูนยอพยพแม่หละเมื่อสองปีที่แล้ว ขณะที่ผมติดต่อเขาเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้ เขาอยู่ที่จังหวัดขอนแก่น เพิ่งเสร็จจากการช่วยเหลือชาวสวนยางที่นั่น |

| He arrived in Omkoi on July 23, with most of the cut iron bars that he had prepared was enough for 20 bunk beds Then I ordered AA quality plywood (15 mm. thick) from Omkoi. Joseph said after he cuts plywood for 20 bunk beds (40 beds), we will have some leftover plywood. He wondered what I would like to do with this leftover plywood and I told him if possible, I would like shelves made for the children. He said, “OK, I want to be busy with work”, so I began checking into what other needs the hostel had that he could help with. We had some iron rods leftover from construction and planks from the old building so I asked him if its possible to make benches for the hall (ground floor of the new building). I don’t know how many benches we can make. | เขามาถึงอมก๋อยเมื่อวันที่ 23 กรกฏาคม 2555 พร้อมกับเหล็กกล่องที่เขาตัดมาเรียบร้อยแล้ว สำหรับเตียงสองชั้น 20 หลัง จากนั้นผมสั้งไม้อัดเกรด AA ความหนา 15 มม. ร้านค้าในอมก๋อย โจเซฟบอกว่าหลังจากตัดไม้อัดสำหรับ 40 ที่่นอนแล้ัว จะมีเศษไม้อัดเหลือจำนวนหนึ่ง เขาจึงถามผมว่าต้องการทำอะไรกับเศษไม้อัดเหล่านี้ ผมบอกเขาว่าหากเป็นไปได้ ก็อยากจะทำชั้นวางของให้เด็กๆในหอพัก เขาตอบ ‘ตกลงเขาจะทำให้ เพราะเขาไม่ชอบอยู่ว่างๆ’ ผมจึงต้องเริ่มมองหาสิ่งที่เขาจะช่วยทำให้หอพักได้ ผมเห็นว่าเรามีเศษเหล็กที่เหลือจากการก่อสร้างอยู่บ้าง ผมจึงถามว่าเป็นไปได้ไหมที่เราจะทำขาม้านั่งจากจากเศษเหล็กเหล่านี้ เพื่อใช้สำหรับห้องโถงชั้นล่างของคารใหม่ของเรา ผมไม่แน่ใจว่าจะทำได้กี่ตัว |

| When Joseph saw that the children had no place to put their soap baskets, he asked if he can make shelves for them. “Go ahead, brother. It is a good idea,” I said. I told him God sent him for our hostel ministries. |
เมื่อโจเซฟเห็นว่าเด็กๆไม่มีที่วางตะกร้าสบู่ เพราะเราเอาไม้กระดาน ที่เด็กๆเคยวางสบู่ ไปทำม้านั่ง เขาถามผมว่าเขาทำชั้นวางตะกร้าสบู่ให้เด็กๆได้ไหม ผมบอกเขาว่า “ทำได้เลยพี่ชาย เป็นความคิดที่ดี” ผมบอกเขาว่าพระเจ้าส่งคุณเพื่อที่จะมาช่วยพันธกิจหอพักนี้จริงๆ |

| Before we went back to Chiang Mai I told him that if possible, I would like to have hanging racks and shoe racks for the children. A door on the second floor needed fixed as well. We put a piece of metal close the doorknob to make the knob tighter. |
ก่อนที่ผมจะกลับไปยังเชียงใหม่ ผมบอกโจเซฟว่า ถ้าเป็นไปได้ผมอยากให้หอพักเรามีที่แขวนเสื้อผ้า และที่วางรองเท้าสำหรับน้องๆที่หอพัก ลูกบิดประตูชั้นบนของเราก็หลวมเพราะรูลูกบิดใหญ่เกินไป อาจจะต้องหาเหล็กมารองพื้นแล้วเจาะรูให้พอดีกับลูกบิด |

| I asked Joseph to show us what a bunk bed would look like when it is finished. He made a sample for us and, then at my request. added a side bar to prevent children from falling out. |

| Joseph is happy to teach the children who are interested in what he is doing. | Joseph told me that he will become bored and suffers from back pain, when doing the same thing everyday so I have to think what else the hostel needs because, to make something else, we always have the cost and demand of more raw materials. | โจเซฟบอกผมว่าเขาจะเบื่อและปวดหลัง หากเขาต้องทำอะไรในท่าเดิมๆนานๆ ผมจึงต้องคิดว่า มีอะไรที่โจเซฟช่วยทำให้ได้อีกบ้าง แต่ก็นั่นแหละ การจะทำอะไรสักอย่าง ก็จะต้องมีค่าใช้จ่ายสำหรับซื้อวัตถุดิบ |

| I would like to say that the funds that Mr. Gaylord has given to us is not only for bunk beds but might go towards the benefit our ministries and begin another helpful program in the future. Joseph said if the children or people from this area want to have better opportunities for working, he is willing to teach or share the knowledge he has. (Possibly a short teaching course may form in the future.) | ผมอยากจะบอกว่า เงินช่วยเหลือที่คุณเกหลอดได้มอบให้กับเราสำหรับซื้อเดียงสองชั้นนั้น เราได้มากกว่าเตียง และมันอาจจะสามารถต่อยอดพันธกิจของเราได้อีกในอนาคต เพราะโจเซฟบอกว่า หากเยาวชนหรือชาวบ้านในบริเวณนี้ ต้องการที่จะมีโอกาสที่ดีกว่าในการทำงาน เขายินดีที่จะสอน และแบ่งปันความรู้ที่เขามีให้ (มีความเป็นไปได้สำหรับการสอนวิชาชีพระยะสั้นในอนาคต) |
