เครื่องกรองน้ำเครื่องนี้ ได้เอามาไว้ที่อมก๋อยเมื่อ 3 ปีที่แล้ว  แต่ ไม่ได้ถูกใช้อย่างจริงจัง ผมจึงเอากลับไปเปลี่ยนอะไหล่  และไส้กรองใหม่ทั้งหมด เพื่อนักเรียนที่อมก๋อยจะได้ดื่มน้ำที่สะอาดกว่า เดิม  จริงๆแล้วต้องการไปติดให้  หอพักมอเคล่อคีเช่นเดียวกัน แต่เรายังไม่มีพร้อมในขณะนี้

I brought a water filter to Omkoi three years ago.  It needed some repair work so I brought it back to Chiang Mai to change all cartridges.  I will reinstall is to provide cleaner water for the children at Omkoi. Actually Maw Kler Kee Hostel also need water filter as well.

Daily about 3.5 trays of eggs are collected from our Food Project. A sack of chicken feed can feed the chickens for 2 days. Some eggs are sold to buy chicken feed. Average profit is 1 tray per day. Thanks to all our friends who buy our egg so that we can buy food for our chicken again.

เวลา 8.30 น. คุณเดย์เดย์ กับคุณเบรด เริ่มกิจกรรมค่ายฤดูร้อนด้วยการนมัสการ จากนั้นนำเด็กๆเล่นเกมส์เพื่อสร้างความคุณเคยกัน ชอนและรอนด้าจากองค์กรจีทีโอเชียงใหม่ มาส่งครอบครัวคุณเกหลอดเมื่อวานนี้  ทั้งสองอยู่ร่วมค่ายฤดูร้อนกับเราได้แค่ครึ่งวัน เพราะต้องกลับไปทำภารกิจที่เชียงใหม่

At eight o’clock in the morning our Summer Camp started.  First there was worship and then a game was played to help the children feel comfortable. Shaun and Ronda from GTO drove Mr. Gaylord and family to Omkoi yesterday. Shaun and Ronda could stay with Summer Camp only for half of the day because they had to go back to work.

Mr. Chana with family and Mr. Chi with his wife arrive Omkoi at about noon to teach in the afternoon. Mr. Chi told me that he does not want to teach too academically to the children. The way he taught was to ask the children to do some brainstorming. This provides an open opportunity for children to propose their opinions.  The subject he taught was familiar to them.  The subject was the story of Karen People. Many thoughts were offered and Chi wrote them down on the white board. While the children finding the answers.

ในขณะที่น้องๆหาคำตอบอยู่  ผมขึ้นไปเก็บภาพรวมของอาคารด้านนอกจากมุมสูง  ขณะนี้โครงหลังคาของชั้นสองขึ้นมาแล้ว  ช่วงนี้เป็นช่วงวันหยุดสงกรานต์ จึงไม่มีใครมาทำงาน

While the children finding the answers, I went to take an overview picture of our building in process of construction. The roof structure is done. During the SongKran holiday construction stopped

หลังจากหมดการเรียนการสอนในวันนั้น  คณะวิทยากรขอไปดูโครงการอาหารที่เรากำลังเริ่มทำ  เราได้ข้อแนะนำที่ดีๆหลายอย่างจากคุณชิและคุณชนะ  หากโครงการอาหารของเราสามารถผลิตอาหารได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ  และหลากหลาย ในระยะยาวเราจะสามารถช่วยเหลือน้องๆที่ต้องการมาอยู่ที่หอพักของเรา  เพื่อการศึกษาต่อในระดับมัธยมที่อมก๋อย  และเพื่อโอกาสทางการศึกษาในระดับประถมที่หอพักมอเคล่อคี และหอพักอื่นๆในอนาคตได้มากขึ้น

After class finished, in the evening the speakers requested to visit the Food Project. I received many good recommendations from Chi and Brother Chana. If this project can produce the food efficiently season after season we can help more children who want to come and stay in our hostel for high school in Omkoi.  It will provide more opportunity for children to study in primary school at Maw Kler Kee.  There are also dreams for other hostels in the future to serve more Karen children.

หลังจากจบรายการในคืนนั้น  ผมและครอบครัวไปนอนที่สวนโครงการอาหาร ก่อนนอนผมเดินสำรวจพื้นที่รอบๆ  ส่วนสวรรค์หนึ่งในนักเรียนของเรา  ที่ไปนอนเฝ้าสวนกับหนุ่ยอาสาสมัครทึ่มาช่วยเราด้านการเกษตร  ออกล่าหนูในสวนโครงการอาหารและละแวกใกล้เคียง อยู่ๆก็ไค์ได้ยินเสียงสวรรค์วิ่งหนีอะไรบางอย่าง ผมจึงหยิบจอบที่อยู่ใกล้ตัวแล้วเข้าไปหาเขา พอไปถึงจึงรู้ว่าเขาเจองูสามเหลี่ยมอยู่ตัวหนึ่งไล่ แต่ตอนนี้มันกลับเข้าไปอยู่ในกอหญ้าแล้ว  สวรรค์จึงเอาหนังสติ๊กยิงเข้าไปในกอหญ้านั้นประมาณ ห้าที จากนั้นก็ลากตัวมันออกมาดังภาพ

After the concert my family and I went to sleep at food project farm. Before going to bed I walked around to survey the farm. Sawan, one of our students, who came to sleep and take care of the farm at night went to hunt rats. Suddenly Sawan ran away from something so I grabbed a hoe and rushed over to Sawan.  There was a Krait snake.

During this time every year is the water festival holiday. We try to organize a summer camp for children during this holiday to prevent children in joining with the distorted tradition to protect the children from many possible dangers. The day we returned to Chiang Mai we saw young adults drunk along the streets.  After this year’s water festival holiday the news reported 300 deaths from accidents and violence with more than 2000 people with serious injuries

เย็นวันนี้มีพายุฤดูร้อนในเขตเทศบาลอำเภออมก๋อย  หลังคาหอพักที่เป็นสังกะสีของเราปลิวและเสียหายไป 8 แผ่น โครงเหล็กหลังคาของเราด้านที่เด็กผู้ชายนอนพับและหัก เพราะโครงหลังคานี้ใช้มานานแล้ว ดังที่ เคยกล่าวถึงว่า เป็นหลังคาเล้าไก่เก่า เราเพียงแต่ยกมันขึ้นอีก 60 ซม. เท่านั้น. เราหวังว่าสักวันหนึ่งจะได้แก้ไขให้มันแข็งแรงขึ้นทั้งโครงสร้างหลังค

During the evening there was a summer storm in Omkoi district. Our zinc roof was damaged. The frame of the roof on the side where the boys stay was broken. This roof frame is the old roof of a henhouse we lifted up 60 centimeters. We hope that one day we can replace the old roof structure with a new and stronger roof.

ถึงแม้หลังคาหอพักที่เสียหาย  จะทำให้เด็กๆตกใจบ้าง แต่เมื่อพายุสงบลง กิจกรรมค่ายก็ดำเนินต่อไป เย็นนี้มี 3 กลุ่ม ที่จะต้องแสดงละคร โดยมีกรรมการให้คะแนนสามคน คือ คุณเดเด, คุณเบรด และผู้เขียน เพราะผมได้บอกกับคุณเดเด  ว่าเราต้องการให้เด็กของเรามีการแสดง  หากเรามีโอกาสออกไปเยี่ยมเยือน ชาวบ้านในหมู่บ้านบนดอย  คุณเดเดจึงจัดให้มีการแสดงดังกล่าว  เพื่อให้เด็กได้มีประสบการณ์ และเคยชินกับการแสดง

Although the damage to hostel’s roof scared the children a little when the wind calmed down the activities continued. In the evening 3 groups performed skits. There were three judges. They were Day Day, Bread and me.  I told Ms. Day Day that I wanted the children to demonstrate something in their skits about their village life  in case we go to visit villages on school holidays. So Day Day assigned the children to create their own skits to use with the show and to not be shy.

ไหนๆผมก็มาถึงอมก๋อย  ซึ่งเป็นครึ่งหนึ่งของระยะทางไปหมู่บ้านมอเคล่อคีแล้ว อีกไม่นานก็จะเปิดเทอมแล้ว ผมเป็นห่วงเรื่องข้าวสารสำหรับหอพักมอเคล่อคี เพราะหากเปิดเทอมในฤดูฝนแล้ว ไม่ใช่เรื่องง่ายที่จะขนข้าวสารไปยังหอพักมอเคล่อคีเลย  ผมจึงต้องใช้โอกาสนี้ขนข้าวสารไปยังหอพักมอเคล่อคีเท่าที่เอาไปได้ก่อน ทริปนี้ผมสามารถขนข้าวสารไปได้ 10 กระสอบ และอาหารปลาได้ 2 กระสอบ ท่อน้ำ 2 ม้วนสำหรับการต่อน้ำมายังหอพัก เพราะหากเราใช้น้ำในการเพาะปลูก และเติมน้ำเข้าบ่อปลาตลอดเวลา ชาวบ้านจะไม่มีน้ำพอใช้ เราจึงตัดสินใจ ต่อท่อโดยตรงจากลำธาร แต่ท่อที่ผมนำมาคราวก่อนนั้นไม่เพียงพอ เที่ยวนี้จึงเอามาเพิ่ม เราหวังว่า ปัญหาเรื่องน้ำสำหรับหอพักกาแฟ(มอเคล่อคี) จะบรรเทาลงได้

Since school will soon start again and I am already at Omkoi which is half way to Maw Kler Kee I was concerned about enough rice for Maw Kler Kee Hostel. When school starts during raining season it is not easy to take rice there. So I took this opportunity to take rice to Maw Kler Kee. I was able to take 10 sacks of rice, 2 sacks of fish food, 2 rolls of pipes to bring water to the hostel. I decided to connect the pipe directly from the creek. The pipe I brought last time was not enough. I brought more this trip and I hope the water problem at Maw Kler Kee Hostel will be alleviated.

รถไถเดินตามคันนี้เราซื้อไว้เมื่อปีที่แล้ว  เพื่อให้ชาวบ้านในหมู่บ้านมอเคล่อคี ได้ยืมใช้ในการทำนาของเขา  แต่เนื่องจากใช้ไม่ถูกวิธี เฟืองข้างในจึงเกิดความเสียหาย  วันนี้เราได้ซื้ออะไหล่ไว้เกือบหมดแล้ว เพียงแต่รอการประกอบเท่านั้น

We bought a frame of a walking tractor last year for Maw Kler Kee village but due to improper use the gears inside were damaged. The spare part was already bought so just waiting to make the repair.

The wooden window and door frame are for our hostel and church building at Maw Kler Kee. 

เมื่อผมกับเกหลอดกลับมาถึงอมก๋อย เป็นเวลาประมาณ 21.50 น. หนุ่ย, สวรรค์และตรีเทพซ่อมหลังคาของหอพักเรียบร้อยแล้ว  แต่วันรุ่งขึ้นทั้งหนุ่ยและสวรรค์เจ็บตา และตาแดงทั้งคู่ เพราะไม่ได้ป้องกันควัน  จากการเชื่อมเหล็กหลังคา เราจึงทำได้แต่ไปซื้อยายอดตาและแก้อักเสบให้เขาทั้งสอง เมื่อผมถามคุณเกหลอดผู้มีประสบการณ์การเชื่อมเหล็กมาอย่างมากมาย เขาบอกว่าให้เอามันฝรั่งหั่นเป็นแว่นๆ  แล้ววางบนไว้บนตา ทุกๆ 15 นาที

When we came back to Omkoi at about 21.50 pm Nui, Sawan and TreeTep already fixed hostel’s roof. But the next day Nui and Sawan’s eyes were very painful and red because when they were welding the steel roof they did not have proper eye protection. We bought eye drops and antibiotics for them. When I asked Mr. Gaylord who has a lot of experience about welding, he told us to put a sliced potato on their eyes every 15 minutes.
