Mr. Michael Iliff from AAI organization informed us that Mr. Will Flora wanted to come and visit our coffee farm. Khun Kate and Khun Tip came to take care of Mr. Will during this trip. Khun Kate also invite Khun Pae and his wife Khun Tip from Tammanikom Church to come along for this trip. |

การเดินทางมายังอมก๋อยแต่ละทริป มีค่าใช้จ่าย เฉพาะค่าน้ำมันอย่างน้อยสองพันบาท การมาครั้งนี้ เราจึงถือโอกาสนี้ขนโต๊ะปิงปิงเก่า ที่เพื่อนของคุณตู่ ติญา นลิน บริจาคให้กับหอพักของเรามาด้วย
To travel to Omkoi it costs a minimum of two thousand baht in fuel. This being the case, I also used this time to bring a ping pong table which Khun Tooh’s friend gave to our hostel.

We departed from Chiangmai at about 3 pm., and reached Omkoi at about 7 pm. The Hostel children welcomed their guest by singing songs. |
| เราต้องการให้เด็กๆได้ยินได้ฟังคำหนุนใจ และการชี้แนะจากผู้มีคุณวุฒิที่หลากหลาย เพราะเพียงลำพังแต่เราซึ่งเป็นเพียงเกษตร ไม่อาจที่จะให้ปัญญากับเด็กที่กำลังโตเหล่านี้ได้อย่างครอบคลุม สิ่งที่เราทำได้คือแนะนำให้เขาฉวยโอ กาสที่ดีเหล่านี้ขวนขวายหาความรู้ให้มากที่สุด และเป็นคนดีของสังคมและรู้จักช่วยผู้อื่นต่อไป |

We want these children to hear instruction and encouragement from variety of qualified people, because we are just farmers and feel that we are not able to give these teenagers extensive wisdom. What we can do is to tell them to make the most of each of these opportunities to learn as they can, so they can become responsible, productive, and able people for society and so they can help other people. |

| อันที่จริงเราไม่มี งบประมาณโดยเฉพาะสำหรับการก่อสร้าง หอพักหลังนี้แต่อย่างใด แต่เดิมอาคารหลังนี้เป็นโรงเก็บรถเก่า แล้วเจ้าของเดิมเอาไก่ชนมาเลียงไว้ และ เมื่อเรามาเริ่มโครงการ ให้น้องๆเหล่านี้เพื่อจะได้เรียนหนังสือต่อ ในตัวอำเภออมก๋อยนี้ เรามาเช่าเล้าไก่นี้ และต่อเติมด้วยไม้ไผ่ เวลาผ่านไปปีกว่าๆ ฝุ่นที่เกิดจากไม้ไผ่ก็ร่วงลงมามากขึ้นๆ เมื่อฝุ่นปลิวลงมาถูกเด็กๆ จะทำให้เกิดอาการคัน เสาอาคารเอง เมื่อลมในต้นฤดูฝนพัดมา ก็มีอาการโคลงหรือโยก |

Actually we didn’t have a specific budget to build this building. Originally this building was a garage, which the original owner converted into a barn for fighting cocks. When we came to start this project for these children to extend their education in this town (Omkoi), we rented the barn and made additions with bamboo. Over one year later, the bamboo was deteriorating due to termites, and the dust was falling on the children and causing their skin to itch. Also when the wind was strong, the whole building would wobble. |
| เราเกรงว่าอาคารจะพังลง และทำอันตรายกับเด็กๆ เราจึงไปเช่าบ้านอีกหลังหนึ่งให้กับเด็กนักเรียนชายของเรา และให้เด็กนักเรียนหญิงไปอยู่ในอาคารที่เด็กผู้ชายเคยพัก ขณะนั้นเราคิดเพียงว่า จะสร้างเสาทั้งเก้าต้นของอาคารขึ้นใหม่ให้แข็งแรงเท่านั้น เพื่อไม่ให้หลังคาของอาคารนี้ถล่มลงมา เพราะเสาไม้เก่านั้นผุหมดแล้ว ผู้คนที่ผ่านไปผ่านมาและเห็นอาคารหอพักไม้ไผ่หลังนี้ ต่างก็เรียกหอพักนี้ว่า หอพักเล้าไก่ ลึกๆแล้วเราก็อายเหมือนกัน แต่เราคิดว่าเราริเริ่มหอพักนี้ในฐานะเป็นลูกพระเจ้า และเป็นเกษตรกร เราไม่ใช่ในองค์กรหรือมูลนิธิใดๆ หากลูกหลานได้เรียนหนังสือ และได้รับการดูแลอย่างใกล้ชิด ก็เพียงพอแล้ว |

We worried that the building would be collapse, and harm the children. We decided to rent another house for the boys and moved the girls over to the boys’ old building. At that time we thought just to build nine concrete pillars to prevent a possible roof collapse because all the old wooden pillars were already decayed. People passing through this bamboo hostel called it the “Henhouse Hostel”. We were embarrassed by this situation, but we began this hostel through humble means as God’s children and farmers, not as a big organization or foundation. If the children are able to develop in a loving, enriching environment, that’s enough. |

The distance from Omkoi to Tee Ke Kee village takes 3 hours to drive. On the way, there are tomatoes farms that farmers use many chemical fertilizers and pesticides on and have cleared much forest for. Eventually, these tomatoes farmers have to pay for medical expenses in their later life because of the side effects of the chemicals they have used. |
| เราเห็นว่า การเกษตรที่ต้องเกี่ยวข้องกับสารเคมี ในปริมาณที่มากและต้องใช้อย่างต่อเนื่องแบบนี้ ไม่เป็นผลดีกับตัวเกษตรกรเอง เราจึงมาส่งเสริมให้ชาวบ้านปลูกพืชที่ไม่ต้องอาศัยสารเคมี เพื่อเขาจะได้อยู่ร่วมกับสิ่งแวดล้อมได้อย่างปลอดภัย ถึงแม้ชาวบ้านจะไม่เชื่อมั่นว่าเราจะทำอย่างจริงจังเมื่อห้าปีก่อน แต่เดี๋ยวนี้เราพิสูจน์ให้ชาวบ้านเห็นมาตลอดว่า สิ่งที่เราพูดนั้นเราทำ และเราจะทำต่อไป โครงการกาแฟของเรานี้ยิ่งทำมากขึ้น ป่าไม้จะก็ยิ่งเพิ่มขึ้น และวันหนึ่งเราหวังว่าโครงการนี้จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่จะช่วยให้ระบบนิเวศน์กลับมาเหมือนเดิม |

We see that agriculture involving many chemicals long term is not good for farmers. We encourage villagers to grow plants that do not rely on chemicals so that they may live in the environment healthily. Even though villagers did not take our coffee project seriously five years ago, we have built rapport with them by doing what we said we would do, and continuing to do it. The more this coffee project expands, the more the forest increases. We hope that our coffee project is able to help restore the ecological system.

ปกติแล้วเดือนสิงหาคม เป็นเดือนที่ฝนชุกมาก ในภาคเหนือของประเทศไทย และเป็นเดือนที่เราจะหลีกเลี่ยงในการเดินทางขึ้นเขา แต่หมู่บ้านทีเกะคีปีนี้ ถนนยังใช้สัญจรได้อยู่ เราจึงพามิสเตอร์วิล มาได้

Normally August is the month that there is an abundance of rain and we avoid making a trip to the mountain. However, this year, the road to Tee Kay Kee village was clear, so we were able to make this trip with Mr. Will. |
| หลังจากเดินชมไร่กาแฟแล้ว เรารับประทานอาหารเที่ยงกันในหมู่บ้าน จากนั้นเราเดินทางกลับมายังอมก๋อยและเชียงใหม่ตามลำดับ |

After we toured the whole coffee farm, we had lunch in the village. We then returned to Omkoi and Chiangmai, respectively. |
